Re: New PC Thread #25421

Also I think you can still get free delivery if you create an avforum account and link it to your scan account, saving you around a tenner. Link below. http://www.avforums.com/forums/scan_offer.php Aye, good point. They've upped the minimum spend to qualify to £100 if I remember rightly. Not a both...

Re: New PC Thread #25421

(Something like this helps pass the quiet times at work) Of course you can swap out any parts you like, the BluRay drive was more to show you could get a lot more for your money. I'd possibly keep the ATi 6950, drop the 2TB HDD down to 1TB and revert to a DVD-RW - you still get a damn fine spec what...

Quick (!) comparisons..... IMAGES INCOMING!! Re: New PC Thread #25421

If you can wait till tomorrow morning I should have time to have a check through things and maybe even draw up a component pricelist that shows how much you could save if you have a go at building yourself (or bribe a mate into helping). I'd rather you ask questions and end up with what you want tha...

Re: Yet another new PC thread

The MSI 6950 seems to use a very similar dual-fan cooling system to the Sapphire. Since it's down the road there's no harm in supporting local industry and picking it up on the way home - if you have any issues it's nice and easy to get some Customer Service as well. ;) Aria are Manchester based and...

Re: Yet another new PC thread

That's actually not a bad collection of bits at all.... Yaaaaaay, people are paying attention! As for your questions: RAM - I'd go for This 8GB from Corsair instead of the one you picked. It's got a slightly lower latency (the 24<>27 difference in the numbers) and runs at a lower voltage (1.5V vs 1....

Re: New PC Thread #25421

Which base model did you start with on CyberPower? In PCPro's recently announced 2011 awards , they scored a creditable mid-table position for desktop sellers. The motherboard looks to be one of the more basic Z68 chipset ones that Gigabyte sells, it has a single PS/2 port (so you can connect either...

Re: New PC Thread #25421

How many guests would you be hosting at any one time? You ideally need 1 CPU core (physical or, at a push, hyper-thread) per guest + 1 for the host at the very minimum for smooth operations. The OS you're putting on will have minimum/recommended RAM requirements - Server 2008 isn't very happy on les...

Re: New PC Thread #25421

At work we're cheap enough to use HyperV for our virtualisation so aside from a dabble with virtualbox my knowledge stops there.

Sorry!

Re: New PC Thread #25421

For now, the i5 2500K is definitely the sweet spot for bang:buck - though the i7 2600 is definitely faster, is it £70 faster? I'd be putting that £70 into upgrading the VGA card or maybe a nice 60GB SSD boot drive. If you're adamant that you don't want to buy bits and build it yourself you might fin...

A blast from the past.... ClanBase?

I got an email to my old Yahoo account this morning... telling me I had a new PM to read. Having retired from UT 10 years ago it's been a while since I'd been anywhere near ClanBase! http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1858/clanbase01.png He-Man! Oddly enough I've forgotten what my password is but inst...
