The starting premise of Bioshock Infinite is "Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt!"

PS+ gave away Bioshock 2 a while back and I finally got round to starting it last week. I'm not sure if it's because I haven't played the first one or if I've not given it much chance but it's not done a great deal for me so far.

Am I missing much by leaping into the series at the sequel?

Yes, is the short answer. :) Though to be fair you're also playing the least awesome title of the series. Bioshock 2 isn't actually by the same developer as Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite. Bioshock 2 was created by 2K Marin, whereas Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite were created by Irrational Games.

Bioshock was fantastic. Bioshock 2 is pretty good, but if you've not played Bioshock first then you probably aren't going to find much of what's happening particularly interesting. The mechanics and playstyle of the game are better but the storyline didn't grip me as much, and I never actually ended up completing it.

Bioshock I played from start to finish in as short a time as possible and I did almost the same thing with Bioshock Infinite.

Bioshock Infinite is almost completely separated from Bioshock and Bioshock 2, so you can jump straight into it if you want. I'd still suggest playing Bioshock first though, because it's just that good. :)

Ah, bugger.

But it was freeeeeee! Dammit, now I need to find someone with a PS3 copy of the first one to borrow.

(Before anyone mentions how cheap these things are on Steam etc - I've not played a PC game since Left4Dead years ago....)
