Bands and Music!

Post by Shadowjester »

I thought I'd make a thread where people could introduce others to local bands and tunes that they've just come across. Broaden your horizon and all that jazz. Everyone's got a different taste in music (haters gonna hate etc.) but you never know...you might like a band someone posts about and they could be touring to a place near you in the future!

And So I Watch You From Afar - http://www.myspace.com/andsoiwatchyoufromafar/ Hardly new I know but I'm sure there are lots of people that haven't heard of them. Probably one of the best local bands to emerge on the music scene and have been touring away, even played at the Reading Festival last year.

Hornets - http://hornets.bandcamp.com/ A local metal band that had a brutal first gig last week...basically killed it even though they were first up.

Axis of - http://www.myspace.com/axisof Favourite local band from the North Coast! Bit of alternative/hardcore style.

Slomatics - http://www.myspace.com/slomatics Another sick local band. Slow chordy rock stuff

Ash the Cat - http://www.facebook.com/AshCatMusic?sk= ... 4879526524 Some funky gameboy type music by a friend of mine.

Hopefully this thread thrives with lots of new stuff (which it probably won't *tumbleweed*) and people enjoy new tastes!

If you use the phrase "killed it" once more I will kill you.

Sounds okay! Actually saw Saberpulse last week but didn't like him, seems he moved away from nintendocore but this seems a lot better!

I guess it doesn't hurt to define "local band" as "any Belgian band". So even though they're not really from my local area, MOTEK's a band I think more people should know of:

(don't pay too much attention to the video ;p)

For those of you who don't want hard rock and prefer something a bit easier to listen to, look up harry + alfie on youtube. singer songwriter duo who generally just use an acoustic guitar and can hold a fine tune.

Their mumford + sons cover is something awesome. They've written a few of their own too, which are pretty good.

So yeah, how local does it have to be? While there are lots of Newcastle based bands, I care for very few of them... Sheffield/Leeds/Manchester are a lot easier to do :P

Well I don't mean local as in only your town....local is region wide (then again Northern Ireland is very small :D) Just really new bands you see or hear at a gig or even on the internet, that you like and are worth a listen. I don't mean big well known bands like Metallica etc. (duh!)

I'm sure Pemby would like to mention his friend's band Silent Resistance?

I'm also mentioning Silhouette! - http://www.myspace.com/silhouetteofficial Lucky singer sang with Snow Patrol at the EMAs on Sunday :)

Well here are some northern bands that I don't think get much credit:

Leeds: Grammatics (Spotify) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uzKKtx5-2U
Now defunct, but they were a weird band to describe. Kinda like a Victorian version of Bloc Party.

Also Leeds: Vessels (Spotify) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBu1oxc356k
Post-Rock, more inventive than the likes of ASIWYFA (Sorry Jesse, not impressed with Gangs).

Sheffield: Monkey Swallows The Universe (Spotify) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImUuSN_2tE8
Also now split up :( Lovely acoustic/folky music. Beautiful voice too.

Shipley (though now found around London I think): Blue Roses (Spotify) Blue Roses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0ls9_9M6iM
Amazing voice, almost Kate Bush-like. Does some brilliant things with it too (check out the end of First Frost Night).
